Australian Excellence on Show at the Smart Energy
The Smart Energy Conference in Sydney is always a great reminder of why we do what we do. With thousands of attendees and some of the brightest minds in the industry all under one
Living in the picturesque countryside can be idyllic, but it often comes with its own set of challenges, including unreliable power supply and the constant threat of bushfires. However, a groundbreaking collaboration between PowerPlus Energy and Ausnet is changing the game for rural communities in Victoria. The project involves the construction of 240 Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), specifically the ATS1, a variation of the Escape10 Series. These systems aim to replace SWER (Single-Wire Earth Return) lines across Victoria, addressing pressing issues faced by regional areas while simultaneously improving the quality of life for those who call these areas home.
Ausnet, the project owner, Skybridge, the installer, and PowerPlus, the supplier, have united to pursue a common vision: transforming rural living through innovative renewable energy storage solutions. With 17 trial sites already operational, including locations like Tolmie and numerous Gippsland sites, the project has undergone rigorous testing for over a year. This extensive trial period ensures the product aligns with the unique needs of these communities, and the results have exceeded expectations, leaving Ausnet more than satisfied with the outcome.
The PowerPlus and Ausnet collaboration is about much more than just providing electricity. It’s a team approach that aims to support regional communities, reduce environmental impact, and offer a sustainable energy storage solution. This initiative represents a significant step away from relying on coal power stations and miles of power lines, aligning perfectly with the global shift towards sustainable, environmentally friendly energy storage solutions. Furthermore, the project is gaining recognition from other energy providers, creating even more opportunities for the collaborative team.
Throughout this journey, there have been several moments that highlight the success of the project. One such milestone was the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), a crucial step in ensuring the cabinets are operational and reliable. This testing process ensures the longevity and reliability of the BESS units, providing peace of mind for both the developers and the communities they serve.
Another significant achievement was the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) at the first installation. With all stakeholders in attendance and the system installed, the grid’s power was shut off, and the house remained operational thanks to PowerPlus’ BESS solution. The remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the project’s efficacy in providing reliable power even in remote areas. It’s worth noting the dedication of the team, particularly Joel and his crew, who provided on-site support and resolved issues, from Omeo to Tolmie. Their efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of those living in these regional areas and provided valuable experience to PowerPlus’ new apprentices, Dale and Charlie.
This Ausnet project represents hope for the future of renewable energy. It instantaneously adds value and secures power supply for those affected by environmental factors and living in remote areas. Residents no longer need to compromise their choice of lifestyle when they can have reliable, sustainable power at their fingertips.
The PowerPlus Energy and Ausnet collaboration is a wonderful example of how renewable energy storage solutions can transform the lives of those in rural communities. By providing reliable power, reducing environmental impact, and promoting sustainability, this initiative is a testament to the potential of renewable energy in improving the quality of life in remote areas. It is a step towards a greener and more energy-independent future, and its success is an inspiration for similar projects Australia-wide – keep an eye out for our next BESS project!
